Paddle

Category: Gear

A paddle is a flat blade on a handle. The wide face spreads force, so a paddle bruises and warms rather than cutting a line the way a cane does, and it is loud. Leather paddles are relatively soft; wood, acrylic and slotted or studded faces escalate quickly. Paddling stays on the buttocks, which is the one area built to absorb it.
