Identity
Category: Gender
Identity, on this platform, means the parts of how someone understands themselves that this site is organised around: gender, orientation, relationship to community, and the words a person chooses for any of it.
Two things follow that are worth stating plainly. A label is a description a person applies to themselves, not a test they have to pass — and it can change, or be held loosely, or be refused altogether without anything being unresolved. And identity is not the same as disclosure: someone can be certain of who they are and still decide, correctly, that a particular room is not a place to say so.
